Growing Hostas
 Thunderbolt Hosta
|
Growing Hostas
Here's the Thunderbolt Hosta about a year later in June 2009. It's starting to get established and has really grown in a year's time. I might consider dividing this in the fall and getting a few plants out of one. This location may not be the best as it gets full sun until about 3pm in the day.
Actually, I'm considering dividing this hosta now. I think it has 4 divisions. I'll get four plants out of it and move it to a better location and probably keep one of the divisions right here. Not bad, considering I paid a goodly sum for this hosta a year ago.

 Krossa Regal Hosta
|
Growing Hostas
Wow, this Krossa Regal Hosta has come a long way in a year's time. Again, this one gets too much sun so it probably isn't the best location. See the browning on the leaves. In this location, I need to water it more often.

 Blue Angel Hosta
|
Growing Hostas
This Blue Angel Hosta has taken off. I cut off the flowers so that it would devote more energy to adding leaves. I would say it has at least quintupled in size since last year. As you can see, this gets shaded from a neighboring Hosta. |
 Daybreak Hosta
|
Growing Hostas
Again, quite an improvement in size over last year. I mulched a lot of these really well about a month ago but am still having trouble keeping them moist.
July 2009 report - Actually, the mulch has done wonders. I put it on pretty thick and these established hostas haven't required much watering at all even though they receive quite a bit of morning and afternoon sun. I hope that I can get by for two seasons without remulching. I should have added some compost to the soil prior to mulching. I'll have to remember to do that next time.

Growing Hostas
This hosta has gone nuts and has really taken to the location. It is around the corner from much of the morning and afternoon sun and has done real well in this location.

 Night Before Christmas Hosta
|
Growing Hostas
This Night Before Chrismas Hosta is a bit fuller. It doesn't seem to be a fast grower but awfully pretty. July 2009 update - I've since moved this hosta to the front yard and it is the centerpiece of a hosta bed around a dogwood. I'll add photos later.

 Elegans Hosta

Growing Hostas
Elegans Hosta has almost doubled in size. Something is enjoying munching on the leaves and it needs a little more water. |
 Frances Williams Hosta
|
Growing Hostas
Frances Williams Hosta has doubled in size. Some more leaf browning but looking good overall. |

July 2009 update, I've since bought 7 more of these Giant Blue Hostas as well as 10 of the varigated white center hostas at hosta-store.com I've made a nice arrangement in the front yard under the shade of a maple tree and look forward to making another bed soon. Stay tuned for pics! |
